(2013) 5(4), 383–388 Over the past two decades, several methods for minimally invasive tumor ablation have been developed and tested clinically. CT-guided high dose rate brachytherapy is an alternative radioablative technique that was introduced in clinical practice as a minimally treatment option almost 20 years ago with some crucial advantages over thermal ablation. This report reviews the current clinical status of percutaneous CT-guided high dose rate brachytherapy of liver metastases.

CT-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy of metachronous ovarian cancer metastasis to the liver: initial experience.
AIM Hepatic resection for hepatic ovarian cancer metastases remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of CT-guided high dose rate brachytherapy (CT-HDRBT) for minimally invasive cytoreduction of isolated metachronous ovarian cancer metastases to the liver. PATIENTS AND METHODS Seven patients with 12 isolated ovarian cancer metastases to the liver we...

PURPOSE Computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided brachytherapy provides high tumor control rates in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal liver metastases. In contrast to thermal ablation methods such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA), much less restrictions apply with respect to tumor location or size. In this study, we determined the efficacy and safety of CT...

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcome of CT-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy (CTHDRBT) of unresectable colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs). Materials and Methods: Retrospective analysis of all consecutive patients with unresectable CRLMs treated with CT-HDRBT between January 2008 and November 2012. Treatment was performed by CT-guided catheter placement and high-dose-rate brachytherapy w...

For liver metastases (LM), image guided percutaneous ablative procedures such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA), laser induced thermal therapy (LITT) and trans-arterial chemo-embolisation (TACE) are increasingly being used because they are relatively safer, less invasive and equally effective. CT scan guided interstitial brachytherapy (IBT) with a single large dose of radiation by high dose rate...

PURPOSE To analyse and compare the costs of hepatic tumor ablation with computed tomography (CT)-guided high-dose rate brachytherapy (CT-HDRBT) and CT-guided radiofrequency ablation (CT-RFA) as two alternative minimally invasive treatment options of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS An activity based process model was created determining working steps and required staff of...
